A 22-year-old Latin musician was killed by gunshots in an ambush attack in the San Fernando Valley region on Saturday morning. Two people are in critical condition due to the attack.
Maria De La Rosa was shot in a car in the Northridge area of Los Angeles. She died in the hospital. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the shooting took place just before 1:30 Saturday morning.
Witnesses reported seeing two men approaching the car at approximately 1:25 am Saturday, according to the LAPD. Multiple rounds of gunfire were directed at the car, hitting all three people inside.
De La Rosa was rushed to an adjacent hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to the police. However, the two other victims who sustained injuries in the attack are in critical condition Saturday morning, according to the LAPD.
Despite being a rising artist performing under the stage name DELAROSA, she had already released her first song in August titled “No Me Llames” (meaning ‘Don’t Call Me’) and had been active on social networking sites like Instagram, having over 40,000 followers.
Her last post on Instagram was of her in the recording studio with an electric guitar. She was working on some new songs.
“Ocupando cocinando en el Stu … Ya es tiempo,” she wrote. “Busy cooking in the [studio] … It’s about time,”
Although the shooting appears to have been gang-related, according to NBC Los Angeles, the reason for the shooting is still being investigated. Also, no one has been arrested.
