Shameik Moore, the voice of Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, issued a public apology after actress Laura Harrier criticized him for sharing a video that some interpreted as insinuating a relationship between the two.

Moore’s apology, shared in a video statement, aimed to address the controversy. “This is all a misunderstanding. Unfortunately, it’s public,” he said. “It’s really the fan fiction, man. It’s the commentary. That’s what’s weird. But I mean no harm. I have no ill intent. It’s about art for me… The video had this static of the song, that’s it. It wasn’t insinuated in a relationship. I apologize for the misunderstanding. I do.”

The backlash began when Harrier, who is engaged, posted a TikTok video addressing the situation. Harrier expressed frustration at Moore’s decision to share the post, which featured a video of the two from an event a year prior.

In her TikTok, Harrier said:

“I never talk on this thing… but I keep seeing all these videos that I’m being tagged in with another actor and people speculating what that is. It’s really annoying me because I’m literally engaged, and that’s important to me.”

Harrier explained that she had texted Moore privately, asking him to remove the post. However, she noted the post remained online, leading her to call him out publicly.

“When [Moore] first posted that video, a friend sent it to me and was like, ‘Did you know that he put this up?’ I texted him… ‘Hey, can you take this down? Not sure why you would post that. Also, I’m literally getting married, and I don’t like this insinuation… if that’s your intention.’ And it’s still up, which is weird. You’re a weirdo. I’m sorry, you’re a weirdo, and I’m fucking annoyed.”

Harrier emphasized her frustration, stating she values her privacy and felt her relationship was being disrespected. “I don’t like my marriage being disrespected,” she added. “I don’t like feeling disrespected when I ask somebody to take something down… and [they’re] not doing it.”

Fans of both actors have taken to social media with mixed reactions, with some defending Harrier’s right to set boundaries and others calling Moore’s actions careless.
