Netflix today announced A Part Of You, a new Swedish coming-of-age drama from scriptwriter Michaela Hamilton. The film will get directed by acclaimed author and podcast host Sigge Eklund and produced by SF Studios.
A Part of You is a story about life and death that portrays the experience of being 17 years old and feeling like your heart is about to burst from your chest.
Agnes’ older sister Julia possesses everything that Agnes dreams of: she’s the coolest person in school, the center of every party, and she’s dating Noel. If only Agnes could be more like her.
When the worst possible thing occurs, Agnes’ world is turned upside down, and she’s forced to reinvent herself. Suddenly, she’s on the verge of obtaining everything she’s ever desired, but at what cost?
A Part of You will be Sigge Eklund’s debut as a feature film director: ”I’ve been waiting my whole life for a screenplay that captures the horror and the magic of being a teenager. When I read Michaela Hamilton’s story, I was blown away by the fact that it was all in there. The desperation and the beauty and that sense of urgency that you can only feel when you are 17”, says Sigge Eklund.
Michaela Hamilton, the scriptwriter, says: ”This story is deeply personal to me, as I lost my 19-year-old brother in an accident seven years ago. I felt compelled to write about both sides of loss – the immense pain of it but also the love and hope that can emerge in the process. I’m honored to have this fantastic team bringing this script to life, and to be able to share it with a global audience on Netflix is truly a dream come true”.
The film got produced by Stefan H. Lindén (Eagles) and Alexandra Thönnersten (Eagles) for SF Studios, with Tim King as executive producer. Stefan and Alexandra said: “A Part of You is a story that pierces straight into our hearts, and we as producers are both thrilled and excited to see Sigge debut and take on this fantastic script that Michaela has created.”
A Part of You will start production in Sweden later this summer and release globally on Netflix in 2024. Cast has yet to be announced.
