The internet erupted after an X user labeled Slovak model and actress Adriana Karembeu “mid.” The tweet has garnered over 2 million views on the social media platform.
What Was The Adriana Karembeu Tweet About?
A video montage that follows Karembeu from 1999, aged 28, on French TV, through 2025, aged 54. Throughout the clips, she is shown handling different decades in terms of styling and TV performance. The video is set to the tune of the song “Por Qué Te Vas” by Jeanette, and its emotional tone is one of admiration.
Then came the caption: “Every man just wants a mid that ages like fine wine to call his own.” The compliment was not received well. The audience focused their attention on a single word and could not look away.
Excuse Me, Mid Where?
Social media clearly did not understand the intended definition of “mid” when describing Adriana Karembeu.
“I think we have vastly different opinions on what is mid,” someone wrote.
Another just said, “No way she is MID.”
Some people looked confused, as if it were a typo that had slipped through.
“I’m confused. How is she a ‘mid’?” asked one person.
“Did you just call Adriana Karembeu mid?” another chimed in, perfectly capturing the essence of the thread.
Even the more lighthearted voices seemed offended, at least in principle.
“I would go to war if that were the price,” joked one user, who considered this proposed stop a sacred mission.
The Internet’s New Hobby: Calling 10 Out of 10s Average
In addition to being supportive of Karembeu, some users generalized this concern into an internet mentality that diminishes beauty in favor of attention.
To them, calling an attractively viewed woman “mid” is not an opinion; it feels performative. Why can’t we just be authentic these days? Guys will bring up terms like hoefflation and say 10/10s are mid. I’m so over irony culture,” wrote one commentator.
Another added an explanation of the psychology behind the trend, saying, “I can only assume that extremely online guys have taken to referring all females as ‘mids’ as some sort of reaction to unrealistic demands, but that is not a great look, guys.”
The discussion was not only about the word’s accuracy. There is an underlying shift here in which dismissiveness is a personality type.
