Suni Lee Responds To Criticism Over Her Relationship With Jaylin Smith

Olympic gold medalist and Auburn University freshman Suni Lee recently with public with her boyfriend Jaylin Smith, who’s a Freshman safety at USC.

Many people have shared their opinions on their relationship and they haven’t all been good. Lee recently left a comment under a Tik Tok suggesting that people in the Hmong American community have stopped supporting her because she’s dating a black man.

The video she commented on was made by a fan, @alixphom, who merely shared a screenshot of her Instagram post and expressed support. “I know that Sunisa will be judged by certain eyes in the Hmong Community because her man is Black,” the caption reads. “LOVE is LOVE, no matter what race or gender you are. Keep doing you, QUEEN.”

Lee responded: “This makes me so happy. I’ve recieved so much hate, they support me when it’s beneficial for them never when it comes to my happiness. thank you!“

Suni Lee had all eyes on her at the Olympic Games after becoming the first Hmong American to make the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team in June, before going on to win gold, silver and bronze in three separate events.

Lee will be the first American woman to compete in college gymnastics on Friday after winning the Olympic all-around gold.
