During her final home game, Stanford’s star player Cameron Brink fouled out and made headlines after she spewed out some words in yesterday’s game against Iowa State, Brink, clearly angry, made an alleged obscene gesture toward the referee as she left the court.
The footage rapidly went viral on social media, eliciting reactions from both supporters and critics. Many criticized Brink’s actions, calling them unsportsmanlike and unsuitable for a collegiate athlete, particularly one of her statures.

Some social media users criticized the perceived double standard, arguing that if LSU star Angel Reese, a black woman, had done the same thing as Brink, the media reaction would have been far worse.

It's wild to watch racism happen in real time.
People call Cameron Brink "fiery," but if Angel Reese pulled this it'd be "classless."Ppl will defend/congratulate white players for "letting their emotions get the best of them."
When Black folks do it, they comment on parenting. https://t.co/ImK3rqVHLK— Chris Boeskool (@TheBoeskool) March 25, 2024

While some justified Brink’s actions, blaming them on the heat of the moment and the restrictions of competitiveness, others demanded accountability due to Cameron Brink’s lack of media backlash in this instance.
Do you think the reaction to Cameron Brink’s gesture would differ if it were Angel Reese instead? Drop your opinions in the comment section below.
