Oscar De La Hoya Hopes To See Eye To Eye With Canelo Álvarez One Day

Oscar De La Hoya was honored last night at the 2022 Harold and Carole Pump Foundation Gala. Last night he spoke with our very own Nakia Monet about being honored at the event.

“It feels wonderful. It really does. It feels like it feels surreal. It feels I feel honored. I really do. I don’t say that much. I think I think heroes the word heroes is thrown out too much these days. But really, the Pump Brothers are my real heroes. The fact that they’ve been fighting this this this battle, this war of cancer for the longest time now, the fact that we’re on the same page, my mother passed away as well from breast cancer. So it’s it’s it’s a real trauma. Yeah, well, I know,” De La Hoya says.

After all the back and forth between Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Álvarez in the last few years, Oscar revealed if they were on good terms.

“I hope so. I think so. I mean, life is too short. You know, we have to just let bygones be bygones and hopefully move on. But I respect Canelo. I respect what he’s done. I watched him grow up since he was a kid. I helped his career. I promoted him. Hopefully one day we can see eye to eye and give each other a hug and move on.”

Oscar De La Hoya was Canelo’s former promoter. The two parties split in 2020 after Canelo sued Golden Boy Promotions and streaming partner DAZN over a breach of contract. The lawsuit was for $280 million but got settled. The incident occurred because Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN were unable to come to terms with his next opponent or how much he would make for the fight after he signed an 11-fight, $365 million deal.

From there, Canelo and Oscar De La Hoya’s relationship went downhill. The relationship was so bad that Oscar was thinking about fighting Canelo for his comeback fight. It’s good to see Oscar wants to make amends with Canelo.
