South Korean Actor Lee Sun-kyun, ‘Parasite’ Star, Passes Away at 48

Lee Sun-kyun, the renowned South Korean actor best known for his role in the Academy Award-winning film Parasite, has died at the age of 48. The news of his death, which is suspected to be a suicide, has shocked the entertainment industry and his legions of fans around the world.

According to The Korea Times, Lee was discovered unconscious in a car at a park in Seoul at approximately 10:30 am on Wednesday (December 27). Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The discovery of a charcoal briquette in the passenger seat suggests the actor’s untimely demise was a result of suicide.

Law enforcement received an earlier report that Lee had left his home after leaving behind a memo, which appeared to be a suicide note. His car was subsequently missing. This grim revelation followed a recent investigation into the actor’s alleged involvement with illegal substances.

Lee had been under scrutiny for suspected drug use, particularly at the residence of a hostess employed at a high-end bar in Seoul’s Gangnam district. The investigations revealed alleged drug use incidents occurring multiple times throughout the year. In response, Lee vehemently denied any deliberate involvement, asserting that he was deceived by the hostess into taking the substances and claimed ignorance about the nature of the drugs.

Amid the investigations, Lee cooperated with authorities, undergoing three rounds of police questioning and even submitting a request for a polygraph test to affirm his innocence.
