There are fewer awards being given out this year at the BRITs, with three women named in the mixed gender categories. Several artists on the red carpet called out the lack of women on the nominations list.

In the categories open to male and female artists, four of the 25 BRITs nominations went to three women.

“We’re not the subplot, we’re the main event.” Charli XCX says the lack of female Brits nominees this year is “annoying”.

“So many women put out amazing albums so I’m a bit gutted.” Mahalia talks about lack of female nominees in mixed categories at the BRITs.

The show tonight is really… not slick. Lack of gender diversity in nominations, very flat presenting, dodgy camera work showing stage set up and cameramen in the background, even their Twitter account was tweeting winners early.
