Just getting back into record-shattering form, SZA’s SOS inches its way into unexplored milestones in the music world. This album, which originally came out in December of 2022, has just created history by becoming the first female album to make #1 on the Billboard 200 in three different years: 2022, 2023, and now 2025.
This accomplishment follows the unprecedented 69-week run, making SOS the female album with the most weeks spent inside the top 10 of the Billboard 200 this decade, outpacing Taylor Swift’s Midnights.
Whereby, not only has SOS managed to still stand at the top of the charts, its #1 ranking after releasing its track “LANA” made it spend an 11th week at that same position at the top and firmly secured this piece as the fifth female album to hold the rank longer in Billboard 200 history.
In addition to these feats, SOS now enters an exclusive list of albums by Black women that have spent the most weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200. It is tied for #3 alongside Whitney Houston’s Whitney and Mariah Carey’s Mariah Carey, each spending 11 weeks at #1. However, Whitney Houston’s The Bodyguard soundtrack still leads the way, having spent an incredible 20 weeks at the top.
SOS continues to break the charts, standing at number four for 2024 with 2.931 million equivalent sales, according to the United World Chart Year-End Chart. This is the second year running that the album holds the #4 spot and is the highest-charting album of 2022.
Her continued impact on the music scene and setting new benchmarks for longevity and success, SZA’s SOS cements her place once more as one of the most influential artists of this generation.
