On Friday, January 20, 2023, Bishop Police Department Shift I Uniformed Patrol Division Officers responded to the Bishop Consolidated Independent School District Administration Office, located in the 700 block of E. 6th Street, Bishop, Texas, about a report of a possible improper relationship between a Bishop C.I.S.D teacher and a student.
Bishop C.I.S.D administrators reported information they received, which led them to believe a teacher was having improper contact with a student. An initial offense report was taken at that time and later forwarded to the Bishop Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D) for further investigation.
On Monday, January 23, 2023, Bishop Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D) received the case and officially opened a criminal investigation, along with the assistance of Texas DPS Rangers.
The teacher involved in the case was immediately placed on Administrative Leave by the school district and later resigned.
During this ongoing criminal investigation, Bishop Police Department Criminal Investigators interviewed the Suspect, Victim, and Witnesses, applied for and obtained several Search Warrants for access to electronic devices, cellphones, computers, and social media accounts, and collected substantial evidence.
Based on the information and evidence obtained at this point in the investigation, criminal investigators have established probable cause to believe several criminal offenses occurred.
On Friday, February 3rd, 2023, Bishop Police Department investigators requested and obtained several Arrest Warrants for the suspect in this case, identified as 28-year-old Andrea Marie Peña of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Investigators obtained a total of five (5) Arrest Warrants for the following criminal offenses:
- P.C. 21.12 Improper Relationship Between Educator / Student (3rd Degree Felony),
- P.C 21.11 Indecency with a Child (2nd-degree Felony),
- P.C. 22.011 Sexual Assault of a Child (2nd-degree Felony),
- P.C. 33.021 Online Solicitation of a Minor (3rd Degree Felony) and
- P.C. 37.09 Tampering with Evidence (3rd-degree Felony).
At approximately 10:45 PM on Friday, February 3, 2023, Bishop Police Department Shift II Uniformed Patrol Division Officers executed the Arrest Warrants at the suspect’s residence, located in the 3100 block of Peach Tree Street, Corpus Christi, Texas, 78410.
Peña was located and arrested at her residence without incident. She was later transported to the Nueces County Jail, where she remains on a $210,000.00 bond.
This is still an ongoing criminal investigation and additional criminal charges may be filed at a later date.
Note: All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
