This summer, horror aficionados can expect a chilling new film from a distinguished director. Lee Daniels, lauded for his dramatic works “Precious” and “The Butler,” ventures into the supernatural realm with his highly anticipated project, “The Deliverance.”
The film follows the story of Ebony Jackson (played by Andra Day), a single mother battling personal struggles who moves her family to a new home seeking a fresh start. However, their hopes for a peaceful life are shattered when they discover their new residence harbors a dark secret. Strange and disturbing phenomena plague the house, drawing the attention of Child Protective Services and jeopardizing Ebony’s ability to keep her family together.
In a desperate fight for survival, Ebony finds herself locked in a terrifying battle not only for her own life but also for the souls of her children.
“The Deliverance” boasts a stellar cast alongside Day. Academy Award nominee Glenn Close joins the film, along with the return of Mo’Nique, who is receiving renewed recognition after a hiatus from Hollywood. The supporting cast includes familiar names like Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Omar Epps, and Caleb McLaughlin.
Described as a “genre-defying take on darkness, possession, and finding a higher power,” “The Deliverance” is based on a true story and promises a unique blend of horror and spiritual themes.
The film is written by David Coggeshall and Elijah Bynum, and produced by Lee Daniels, Todd Crites, Pamela Oas Williams, Jackson Nguyen, and Tucker Tooley.
“The Deliverance” will hit select theaters on August 16, 2024, before arriving on Netflix for streaming on August 30, 2024. Mark your calendars and prepare to be spooked!
