The highly anticipated sequel to the 2006 movie was released during the second-biggest opening weekend in 2026, behind the Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 made $233.6 million globally and $77 million domestically, according to Deadline, breaking records in several fields and becoming one of the most anticipated sequels in Hollywood history.

This opening became the best-ever weekend opening for Meryl Streep in any region, beating the $90 million world premiere of “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.”

Furthermore, it was a record for Emily Blunt as well, who achieved the best international and global opening of her career, better than the $176 million world premiere of Oppenheimer.

The audience had long been anticipating this movie. According to Nielsen, the number of people watching the first film on streaming services increased by 428 percent between March and April this year.

Incredibly, the sequel’s opening weekend box office alone accounts for 72% of the original’s lifetime worldwide total of $326.5 million.

The original The Devil Wears Prada debuted in 2006, earning $27.5 million in North America, against Superman Returns.
