Halle Bailey, a singer, and actress, was in Washington, D.C., earlier today to participate in the White House’s 2023 Easter Egg Roll. She plays Ariel in Disney’s live-action reimagining of the studio’s animated musical classic, which opens nationwide on May 26, 2023.

Bailey read two books as a guest reader as part of the annual celebrations: The Mermaid’s Tale: Matthew A. Cherry’s Hair Love and Ashley Franklin’s Make a Splash are two books.

The beloved tale of Ariel, a young mermaid with a thirst for adventure, is known as “The Little Mermaid.” Ariel is the youngest, and most obstinate of King Triton’s daughters, longs to learn more about the world beyond the sea, and falls in love with Prince Eric while on the surface.

Ariel must follow her heart despite the fact that mermaids got forbidden from interacting with humans. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula that allows her to live on land but ultimately puts her life and her father’s crown in danger.

The film stars Bailey; Jonah Hauer-King as Eric; Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian; Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle; Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder; Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina; Art Malik as Sir Grimsby; with Javier Bardem as King Triton; and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.

David Magee wrote and directed “The Little Mermaid,” which got nominated for an Oscar®. Alan Menken composed the songs, Howard Ashman wrote the lyrics, and Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote new lyrics. Marc Platt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, John DeLuca, and Rob Marshall are the film’s producers, and Jeffrey Silver is the film’s executive producer.

Pre-Save, Pre-Add, and Pre-Order, the brand-new soundtrack for Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” are now available here.
