Early Beginnings and Evolution in Cosplay
Originating from Cleveland, Ohio, Kikicheea’s journey into cosplay began during her high school years in 2015, where she attended conventions purely for enjoyment. Her passion for anime and pop culture naturally transitioned into content creation by 2020. Reflecting on this shift, she shares:
“When I first started cosplay I was in Highschool going to conventions and just having fun. I used to watch a lot of different creators on YouTube and such and I thought about how cool it would be for companies to send me free stuff so that’s when I transitioned into creating content in 2020. At first it was just me being myself online and talking about anime and pop culture then I developed a love for being a content creator and just inspiring other people to be themselves!”
Bridging Cosplay and High Fashion
Kikicheea’s fashion brand Kiki’s Attire has an innovative approach seamlessly merges cosplay with high fashion, particularly through anime-inspired clothing. Her designs are deeply influenced by iconic series like Naruto, Avatar: The Last Airbender, One Piece, and Dragon Ball known for its diverse and imaginative character outfits. She explains:
“Growing up watching anime there were a lot of characters’ outfits I would see and want to wear but I could never find them online anywhere! Even over the years I still see outfits that I really love but a lot of the ones you can find online are very cheap and after you wear them once they rip or after one wash they shrink. So I started designing and making stuff that I would want to wear and then other people wanted it to!”
Musical Endeavors and Artistic Integration
In addition to her fashion ventures, Kikicheea has embarked on a music career, aiming to create “anime music” that blends elements of pop, hyper-pop, and cyber music.
Her latest singles, “Over” and “By My Side,” released in 2023, showcase this unique style and are available on platforms like Apple Music and Amazon Music . She envisions performing in her own designs, further intertwining her passions:
“Originally I wanted my music to be like anime/pop/hyper-pop/cyber music, so basically anime music! So with me making anime fashion I want to be able to wear my own designs when I perform and being able to design and make my own clothes the possibilities are endless!”
Cultural Inspirations and Personal Collections
Her admiration for Japanese culture is evident not only in her fashion and music but also in her personal collection of Japanese katana swords. Inspired by the samurai archetype and characters like Zoro from One Piece, she began collecting katanas out of personal interest:
“I’ve always been a huge fan of samurai ever since I started watching One Piece back in ’09. Zoro is a huge inspiration for my katana collection. Originally I didn’t start collecting Katana to show them off online, I was collecting them because I like them.”
Future Aspirations and Collaborations
Kikicheea has ambitious plans for 2025, including new music releases, performances, and fashion designs. She expresses a desire to collaborate with artists like Melanie Martinez, indicating her commitment to expanding her creative horizons:
“2025 is definitely going to be a crazy year for everything! I have a lot of music, performances, and more fashion designs coming out! My dream collaboration would definitely be with Melanie Martinez but I need to release a lot more music and I will be doing that this year!”
