Social media users are going crazy over a video of an Arkansas man being arrested for piercing his child’s ear.
In connection with applying body art to a person under the age of 18, which is a Class D Felony, Jeremy Sherland, 45, was detained on April 20th.
The arrest took place after a Springdale Police School Resource Officer (SPD SRO) contacted Tontitown Police Department on April 20, 2023, regarding the welfare of a young male Tontitown resident.
The SPD SRO reported that a male adolescent attended school while sporting a piercing in his left ear. According to the Tontitown Police Department statement, the young man claimed his father had been drinking when he put him in a choke hold, shoved the piercing in his ear, and engaged in conversation with other students and the teacher while sitting in class.
Officers from Tontitown responded to the address and spoke with the boy’s father, a man named Jeremy Sherland. He was questioned about the incident. Jeremy acknowledged piercing his child’s ear. Officers made an effort to look into the alleged crime more thoroughly, but Jeremy wouldn’t let them speak to his son and wouldn’t answer inquiries. Officers left the house without further incident at this point.
To arrest Jeremy Sherland based on probable cause, Tontitown police officers returned to the house. Jeremy was waiting for the officers at the entrance. Jeremy was asked by the officers to go outside, but he refused, standing in the doorway with his hands behind the door and posing against the wall. Jeremy was informed by police that he was being detained and given the details of the arrest’s probable cause. Jeremy steadfastly disobeyed. He was then arrested by police.
According to the jail’s website, Sherland was freed from the Washington County Detention Center late on Saturday on a $1,500 bond.
Sherland is also being charged with resisting arrest, endangering the welfare of a minor, and obstructing government functions.
