Attorney Tony Buzbee is hitting back at Jay-Z and his legal team over their accusations of misconduct, calling their motion for sanctions against him “frivolous” and accusing the music mogul of using intimidation tactics against him and his client.
According to TMZ, Buzbee filed a fiery response to Jay-Z’s recent legal move, arguing that their case hinges on minor inconsistencies in his client’s story from nearly 25 years ago. The alleged incident dates back to an MTV Video Music Awards after-party in 2000, where an anonymous woman claims she was raped by both Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Jay-Z’s legal team has argued that the woman’s recollection of events conflicts with photographic evidence from the evening, alleging that Buzbee failed to properly vet the claims. However, Buzbee insists these discrepancies do not undermine the validity of his client’s accusations and accuses Jay-Z of attempting to discredit a survivor of sexual assault.
“Jay-Z’s side is using a simple dispute of facts as a way to claim my client’s allegations are baseless,” Buzbee wrote in his filing. “This is nothing more than another example of bullying—an effort to silence and intimidate both me and my client.”
The attorney further likened Jay-Z’s approach to that of Diddy, claiming both men have used their wealth and power to evade accountability. “Rich and powerful people like Jay-Z and Diddy will go to any lengths to harass and pressure those who dare to expose their alleged misdeeds,” Buzbee stated in a letter accompanying the filing.
Buzbee has urged the court to reject Jay-Z’s request for sanctions, emphasizing that the law applies equally to all individuals, regardless of celebrity status.
