Leanna Lenee, the girlfriend of college football phenom Travis Hunter, released a nearly eight-minute video addressing the constant criticism and speculation about her recent behavior. The video comes on the heels of several viral clips and online chatter calling into question her actions and demeanor while out in public with Hunter over the last month.
In the emotional and candid address, Leanna clarified the events fueling the controversy and explained her side of the story while showing frustration with the false narratives circulating online.
Leanna began by addressing claims that she left Travis Hunter’s direct message (DM) unanswered for two months until he gained fame. She stated this was untrue, explaining, “The real reason Travis sat in my DM for two months is because he DM’d me when he had a girlfriend, and her name was in his bio. I don’t do homewrecking. I ignored him until he was single.”
She emphasized her values, stating she supports women and would never compromise someone else’s relationship.
Regarding the viral comment that Hunter wasn’t her type, Leanna clarified she wasn’t referring to his looks but to his age and past. “He was younger than me, and he had cheated on his girlfriend,” she said, adding that while those were initial concerns, “Travis turned out to be a phenomenal and wonderful human being, and that’s why we’re together.”
Leanna denied any suggestions that her tastes are superficial, highlighting the fact that she has dated all shapes and sizes.
Leanna also addressed a viral clip that showed her seemingly in distress during one of Hunter’s games. She explained that the clip was out of context – based on an earlier tiff with security who did not want to let family onto the field.
“I had already congratulated him and kissed him over the fence,” Leanna said. She added that her frustration had nothing to do with Hunter or cheerleaders, despite online claims.
Discussing a different incident at an Adidas pop-up event, Leanna elaborated on another misunderstood video. She said she was not irritated with the fans and that those in the video were employees of Adidas, not fans.
“I was there the entire time taking pictures and talking to fans,” she said. Leanna added that her conversation with Hunter was simply about logistics as he prepared for Heisman rehearsals.
She also spoke of her behavior during the Heisman ceremony where some found her not standing immediately after Hunter’s name was called out. She cleared that it was confusion when she saw the mother of Hunter remain seated so she did, too.
“I wanted the moment to be about him and his family,” Leanna explained, adding that Hunter hugged her first of his own accord. “He’s a grown man. I don’t tell him what to do.”
Closing her video, Leanna expressed frustration at what she described as “crazy narratives” being created online. She said, “I didn’t want to address this, but here we are. I will not be addressing this again.”
The candid response by Leanna has been a direct effort to put the rumors to rest with her side of the story regarding the series of viral clips that have fueled the controversy. Whether that will satisfy her critics is yet to be seen, but for now, she’s made her stance known and her frustrations, too.
