Tyla, a Grammy-nominated Amapiano Pop/R&B phenomenon, is making waves with her latest music video, “Truth Or Dare,” directed by the legendary NABIL, who has collaborated with Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean. The video, a vibrant follow-up to her 2023 mega-hit “Water,” combines joyful imagery with a captivating story, proving Tyla’s commitment to storytelling in her work.
In “Truth Or Dare,” Tyla, fed up with a sluggish romantic pursuit, ingeniously flips the script, putting her potential love interest to the test. As she serenades flawlessly, a high-speed chase begins, culminating in a fatal encounter in which Tyla neatly relieves her pursuer of his car keys, assuming control of the situation with style.
The South African songstress has had a historic influence on the music landscape since announcing her self-titled album in December. When “Water” peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, the South African musician set a record for the highest-charting female soloist in African history. The track, which has already been certified platinum by the RIAA, was Tyla’s first platinum plaque, indicating her impending rise to undisputed popularity.
Tyla, who was nominated for “Best Afrobeat Song” at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, reflects on her journey, saying, “As soon as I heard ‘Water,’ I said, ‘It’s over. We have the song.'” The track’s dominance on radio and social media underscores its impact.
She is set to release her debut album in 2024, which promises to be one of the year’s most highly anticipated musical releases. If the success of “Water” and the captivating tale of “Truth Or Dare” are any indication, Tyla is unquestionably poised to cement her status as a global musical sensation.
