Valkyrae, who is also a popular streamer and creator, was visibly choked up during her live stream when she talked about dating norms and money matters in the Philippines. The matter has recently become the subject of much debate on the internet.
Valkyrae talked candidly with her fans about the matter. Valkyrae explained that the matter is quite common in the Philippines, where young Filipino females tend to associate themselves with older Western males.
“I’ve seen that firsthand through my experiences. I’ve seen that firsthand through my family’s experiences. Because like, okay, it’s a thing that happens in the Philippines. You’ll see when you’re in the Philippines, you’ll see a lot of younger Filipinos with older white men.”
Valkyrae continued that the matter arises because the women receive immigration opportunities and financial assistance for their families back in the Philippines.
“What happens is they marry these guys, get a visa, go to the States, and then they’ll like, you know, go back, help their families in the Philippines, go back and forth, ship stuff. A lot of my family has done that. A lot of my mom’s friends’ families have done that. It’s literally like a culture thing.”
