America is in a weird position. Payments for food stamps have been put on hold, and now it seems like Uber is asking Only Fans models for grocery dollars.
Yes, you read that right.
In a viral digital collision that can only be described as straight out of a fever dream experienced by multiple generations, a verified account for the rideshare service Uber asked content creator and philanthropist Sophie Rain for help with groceries on Sunday, according to The Blast. This request followed up on Rain’s viral fundraising effort for families impacted by the current U.S. government shutdown.
And then, just when you thought 2025 couldn’t possibly get any weirder… it did.
Sophie Rain: Stepping in Where the Government Fails
Rain, who has over 4 million followers on X, posted a video this week about her intention to pay for groceries for low-income families due to the halt in benefits for recipients of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits.
“I used to live off food stamps, so I get it,” Rain stated in her video. “This week, I’m gonna be paying for people’s groceries.”
Several hundred began leaving their Cash App and PayPal names in comments.
Then came the reply.
Uber’s Account Slides Into the Comments
Not long after Rain’s message spread, this reply arrived on Twitter:
“Xoxosamyo on PayPal”
Yes. An authenticated corporate feed dropped a PayPal address and symbols such as this: What would happen if you saw this on your TikTok Live stream?
The post was immediately taken down, but Rain managed to take a screenshot of it.
She reposted this exchange with this immortal caption:
“Uber you better start paying your social media interns more because this is CRAZY.”
Just when this story couldn’t possibly get any crazier: she actually sent money.
Rain: She posted another update that confirmed a transfer of $250 to the account associated with “samyo”:
“got you tho samy .”
Sophie Rain: “Didn’t think I’d be instacarting groceries to Uber…”
Speaking exclusively to Where Is The Buzz, Rain couldn’t help but laugh about this situation:
“Didn’t think I’d be Instacarting groceries to Uber this week, but here we are.”
She added:
“I get hundreds of payment requests a day, but seeing a verified Uber account with crying emojis and a PayPal handle threw me. At first I thought someone hacked their account. Then I realized, no, this is probably just an underpaid intern trying to get fed like the rest of us. So I sent the money. What else am I gonna do, let Uber go hungry?”
Rain then delivered this line, which echoed through the timestream:
“If your social media intern is out here publicly asking OnlyFans girls for help with groceries, maybe your company should take a break from the self-driving cars and pay them a livable wage. Just a thought.”
The Receipts Don’t Lie
Public transaction screenshots indicate that Rain has been sending: $200 to $275 for each request, with labels such as:
“grocery help – team Sophie.”
One recipient in Colorado, who is a homeless person, received $200. Another individual, who thought it was a long shot, received $275 in mere hours.
And she’s still going.
“I’m hoping this inspires other creators to step up because we are in a position to make a change,” Rain explained.
Why Chaos? SNAP Benefit Reductions
These benefits have been reduced by 35% in November due to instructions by USDA. Although orders have been made by a court for these benefits to be reinstated, federal officials have delayed implementing this policy, which is causing these vulnerable groups to scramble.
Rain, who is a food stamp beneficiary herself, believes it all began with the food stamp freeze.
“You’re a Beacon of Kindness”
The response to Rain’s initiative has been overwhelming. One person commented:
“You’re a beacon of kindness in chaotic times.”
Another praised her: “This is what using your platform looks like.” Meanwhile, the internet is trying to comprehend this image of a multinational corporation pleading for help in the comments.
