White Woman Says Lindsay Clancy Sympathy Reveals A Double Standard: ‘There Should Be Punishment For These Actions’

A TikToker has claimed that public empathy towards Lindsay Clancy reflects a more general double standard regarding the judgment of white women involved in violence.

Firstly, Kylie Brewer mentions how people have reacted to this case.

“Cause yes, with Lindsay Clancy. We can all sit here and say, ‘Absolutely, this is horrible. She should have had mental health care access,'” Brewer says.

The lack of care has been a critical issue in the case. Brewer notes:

“It is absolutely atrocious that this was allowed to happen.”

However, the author claims that this empathy does not excuse the crimes committed.

“The fact of the matter is that she still did commit these actions. And again, there should be punishment for these actions,” she insists.

Then, she highlights the general tendency that is behind people’s reaction to Clancy’s case.

“The problem is when we start to see white women as not culpable of our own actions; white women are just as capable of violence as any other demographic. And violence needs to be treated appropriately,” Brewer says.

According to the author, she faces this pattern when listening to other people’s views on the issue.

“I’m really tired of other white people, specifically white men, acting like white women can’t do anything wrong ever. And white women are just so pure,” she says.

Moreover, Brewer mentions an earlier case and says the same pattern determined its outcome.

“Because again, that’s the reason that Casey Anthony was acquitted for literally murdering, murdering her daughter and stuffing her in the trunk years ago. Especially conventionally attractive white women,” she explains.

Anthony was acquitted, and the author challenges that decision in her video.

She also contrasts these results with the punishments other women get.

“And when you compare that to the sentences that Black and Brown women receive for, like, half of the f***ing offense…,” she says.

This gap is especially evident in the prosecution of women for reproductive care issues.

“Black women are getting sentenced to prison for having abortions in the South, whether life-saving or not, then you can really see how this type of treatment of white women, this privilege, hurts everybody,” Brewer says.

Finally, she concludes that this injustice affects everyone.

“It hurts all women. And we need to protect women as well as our children and hold other people to account,” Brewer states.
