One brief scene in Spider-Man: Brand New Day has once again sparked speculation among fans about Marvel Studios’ subtle hints at the future inclusion of Silk, the character who has yet to appear in a suit on-screen.
Cindy, the woman who becomes Silk in the comics, makes a cameo appearance in the movie as a student in one of Bruce Banner’s DNA mutation classes. The scene is very short and was barely noticed by the audience, but this is already the third appearance of Moon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In 2017, she made a cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming as a member of Peter Parker’s academic decathlon team. Next year, she appeared again in Avengers: Infinity War.
Fans of Silk argue that three appearances in almost ten years cannot be accidental, and the classroom setting of the last appearance – the course on genetic mutation fits perfectly with the origin story of the character, which is centered around altered DNA.
Marvel Studios has not announced any projects connected with Silk and has not commented on the character’s future in movies.
In the comics, Moon gets bitten by the same radioactive spider as Parker. Ezekiel Sims hides her away for many years to protect her from the Inheritors, a family of predators that hunt Spider-Totems in the multiverse.
Eventually, Parker finds her and liberates her. She takes the name of Silk and starts looking for her family members who disappeared during her hiding period.
Also, in the comics, there is an attraction between Parker and Moon, based on pheromones, a plotline that was criticized by readers and will probably be omitted in the movie version.
Whether this appearance in the movie was a hint or not is yet to be seen.
