A social media user who posts under the name eva4eva said a stranger walked into the London flat she was renting and stood in her bedroom doorway at 3 a.m. while she was in bed, an account she described in a video posted to TikTok.
“Last night a man broke into my apartment and was standing over me in my bedroom at 3 a.m.,” she said.
She called it “the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life.”
“I don’t even know how to get into this, but last night my house got broken into, or rather the flat I’ve been renting in London,” she said.
The woman said she was lying in the dark and talking to her ex-partner on the phone when she heard noise in the hallway.
“I was in bed at three in the morning with all the lights off. I was on the phone with my ex. I was like, saying good night, and I could hear some, like, commotion, and it was in the hallway, but I was like, there’s no way someone’s in the apartment,” she said. “Like, I had turned all the lights off, like, it had been quiet for hours, whatever.”
Moments later, she said, her bedroom door opened.
“While I’m on the phone under the covers, like, about to, like, shut my eyes, someone opens my bedroom door, mind you, it’s like pitch black,” she said. “And this man walks in. And he’s just standing in my doorway like a strange man. Never seen him in my life. Bald, big dude.”
She said her bed was roughly 2 feet from the door.
“I feel like my brain did not compute what was going on for a second, ’cause I thought like, it was a neighbor coming and telling me I was being too loud,” she said. “Obviously makes no sense. Why would they be in my bedroom?”
Her first reaction, she said, was an apology.
“For a second I was like, sorry, and then I just started screaming at the top of my lungs, like screaming my head off,” she said. “I threw the phone. Like, I lost my s—.”
The man did not speak, she said.
“This was so f—ing creepy and weird,” she said. “We were making eye contact. Low-key, he had glasses. I mean, I don’t know, I can’t see that well. Was just stood there for, like, 10 more seconds, 20 more seconds, and then just slowly turned around and, like, walked out of the room.”
Believing he was still inside the flat, she said she jumped up and held her bedroom door shut with one hand.
“I didn’t know if he was still in the apartment. I just was assuming he was still in the apartment. I jumped up, I shut the door,” she said. “There was no lock on my bedroom door. This is terrifying.”
She said she was shaking so badly she could not type a search for the U.K. emergency number.
“I go to pick up the phone, my ex is like, what’s going on? I’m like, I need to call the police. I’m googling the number for U.K. police think he was still in the apartment at this time,” she said. “And my hands were shaking so badly, I couldn’t even type the thing. And my ex is like, it’s 999.”
The woman said the emergency operator’s response lacked urgency.
“I dial 999. Operator’s no f—ing sense of urgency whatsoever,” she said. “She’s like, well, how do you know he’s still in the apartment? I’m like, I didn’t hear him leave. And she’s like, ‘Can you go out and check?’ I’m like, no f—ing way am I going.”
She said she was unclothed at the time.
“Mind you, I’m butt naked and all this. Like, I had no clothes on. It was a very hot night,” she said. “So I’m standing there naked, with one hand on the door, with a strange man in my apartment at three in the morning in a strange city.”
She said she did not open the door.
“No way am I going out there, ’cause if he’s still out there, I’m getting my throat slit,” she said. “I literally thought I was getting raped and murdered. I genuinely thought it was all over when he was in the room.”
That the man left the room was the only thing that reassured her, she said.
“The only thing that was comforting me was he left. Like, he exited the room. If he was gonna kill me, I was like, he could have just done it there,” she said. “There was no way I could have fought him. I was literally in bed. Like, if he had a knife, it would have been all over.”
Officers arrived about 25 minutes later, she said.
“They’re like, well, there’s nothing we really can do, because, like, you know, he didn’t even steal anything,” she said. “Was so weird. My laptop was right by the door. He didn’t take it.”
She said officers suggested the man may have entered the wrong home while intoxicated, an explanation she disputed.
“They were like, maybe it’s someone that came in drunk into the wrong place. Did he seem intoxicated? I’m like, no, he wasn’t stumbling around at all,” she said. “He was just standing in the doorway of my bedroom while I was in bed. It was like a nightmare. This was literally a horror story.”
She said she has left the flat, where she had planned to stay for the summer.
“I packed up my s—, I got the f— out of there,” she said. “That was the place I thought I was renting all summer. I will not be setting foot back in that place.”
