A viral report claims the Pentagon doled out $93 billion in September 2025 under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, sparking a major online discussion, especially after social media personality YesJulz brought up the issue in her post, criticizing the federal government.

The report claims this is the highest amount of spending by the Pentagon in September since 2008, including $2 million for Alaska king crab. It claims this is part of the “use it or lose it” spending push at the end of the fiscal year, when federal agencies try to use up their budgets to avoid losing them.

The social personality, YesJulz, boosted the post on X, formerly known as Twitter, comparing it to the recent cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

“This happening while our government cut snap benefits for struggling families is diabolical,” YesJulz wrote.

The post refers to the SNAP program cuts included in former President Donald Trump’s July 2025 legislation, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

The legislation would reduce SNAP spending by $186 billion over the next decade, including tougher work requirements that would take effect in February 2026.

The spending has prompted many to debate where the government should spend its funds.

Some people support military spending, even going so far as to say that criticism of the Alaska king crab purchase is ridiculous.

“So you’re against keeping our most important government officials well fed?” the person wrote.

Another commented, “Free lunch for little kids is too much, but they’re spending millions of our money on seafood platters…” A third commented, “Conservatives can’t afford to give students free breakfast and lunch…”
