Did Zara Larsson Condemn ICE?
Larsson’s post comes after Renee Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Good was inside her car, which was stopped diagonally in the street at the scene of an ongoing ICE operation when agents approached her. As she began to drive away, one agent reached into the driver’s side window. A second agent then fired three shots, killing her as she started moving towards traffic.
The shooting has the nation divided over immigration enforcement, with liberals condemning the agency’s actions as brutal and conservatives defending the agents based on bodycam footage.
Did Larsson’s Activism Cost Her Opportunities?
Larsson has spoken out about the consequences of taking a political stance. In her Amazon Prime Video documentary Up Close, she talks about balancing fame with her beliefs. She says she lost music gigs, award-show appearances, and other deals after publicly supporting Palestine.
Why Did The Swedish Pop Star Decline A Eurovision Performance Offer?
Larsson revealed she turned down an opportunity to perform at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö due to Israel’s participation.
“It’s a super big stage, over 100 million people watching, but I didn’t feel like I could go on that stage and stand for those who competed, Israel. It didn’t feel right there and then,” Larsson said.
She added she had no regrets: “I’m not sad I declined, and I would do it 100 times over. I didn’t want to do it. It didn’t feel right.”
