An 18-year-old named Jackson Pierce of St. Peters, Missouri, finds himself at the center of a heinous crime, accused of shooting Dalton Coleman, 24, 15 times. The incident, which Pierce claims was in self-defense, shocked the community and left many questions unanswered.
Pierce is now facing serious charges such as second-degree murder, felony armed criminal action, and evidence tampering. The latter charge stems from an unsettling detail in the case: Pierce is accused of concealing Coleman’s body by stuffing it into an air mattress.
The tragic sequence of events began on Monday night, when a SWAT team, responding to the gravity of the situation, took Pierce into custody alongside a juvenile who was present during the shooting. What followed was a disturbing account of the incident, pieced together from police reports and statements.
According to the probable cause affidavit obtained by NorthJersey.com, Pierce called his roommate prior to the fatal encounter, expressing concerns about Coleman’s erratic behavior and repeated requests for “unknown belongings.” In an attempt to defuse the situation, Pierce’s roommate advised him to keep valuable items, including a firearm, in his room.
Pierce called his roommate again minutes later, revealing a grim turn of events. Coleman is accused of forcing his way into the bedroom where Pierce and the juvenile were seeking refuge. Coleman was shot multiple times during the fight over the firearm. According to the roommate, Pierce claimed to have shot Coleman 14 times.
The preliminary autopsy reports, as detailed in the affidavit, confirmed the severity of the incident, with Coleman suffering approximately 15 gunshot wounds to his abdomen, hand, and face. When Pierce’s roommate found out about the shooting, he urged him to call the police.
However, Pierce refused, prompting the roommate to seek legal counsel. The lawyer advised the roommate to contact the authorities, which prompted a quick response from the St. Peters Police Department.
Except for a DoorDash delivery, surveillance of Pierce’s residence revealed no suspicious activity. A SWAT team arrived at the scene and apprehended Pierce and the juvenile. Pierce, who appeared to be regretful during his arrest, complained to SPPD Sgt. David Gleeson that he should have called the cops himself.
Pierce’s shocking confession led to the discovery of Coleman’s body as the investigation progressed. A SWAT team drone discovered an air mattress tightly tied and wrapped in an electrical cord in an upstairs bedroom closet. Coleman’s corpse was discovered inside this makeshift tomb, with a plastic garbage bag wrapped around his head.
Pierce, who is currently being held on a million-dollar cash-only bond at the St. Charles County Jail, faces a legal battle that will undoubtedly reveal the details surrounding this tragic event. The juvenile involved in the incident has had their case referred to St. Charles County Family Court.
