Authorities were continuing to search on Sunday for a 19-year-old woman, who disappeared on a pontoon boat trip at Grayson Lake. The boat operator is charged with boating under the influence.
Marly Kinney, 19 years, from Ashland, was last seen on June 24 at the Carter County Lake in Kentucky, according to Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officials. She was with the other 10 people on a pontoon and supposedly got off around 4 p.m. to use the restrooms. Then the group left, and they do not know exactly where she got off.
The boat’s operator, Cameron P. Conley, 23, was informed of Kinney’s disappearance. He told one of the marina workers that he could not find a woman who was on his boat, which gave responders clues to find the boat ramp on the lake.
According to state troopers, Conley exhibited the signs of impairment – smell of alcohol and red eyes – and they have asked him if he has consumed any alcoholic beverages while operating a boat. The man admitted his guilt and agreed to undergo a breath test, which showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.137%, which is much higher than 0.08% allowed in Kentucky for boating.
He was charged with operating a watercraft under the influence and was released after.
The girl has not been found yet. It turned into a multi-agency search operation involving helicopters, drones, sonar equipment, K-9 teams, divers, boats, the state police aviation unit, and volunteers. Authorities stated that the search and rescue teams continue looking into the water.
The Kinney family thanked all law enforcement, first responders, and volunteers and expressed hope that their daughter would be returned to them.
