King County prosecutors have filed charges against a 54-year-old Seattle man for the tragic incident in which his stepdaughter was fatally stabbed over 100 times. The unfortunate event occurred when the stepdaughter courageously intervened to protect her mother from the assailant’s repeated punches.
Nghiep Kein Chau has been alleged to have attempted to cause harm to his wife in their residence in Beacon Hill on August 7, ultimately resulting in the tragic stabbing of his stepdaughter, Angelina Tran, a 21-year-old student at the University of Washington.
Chau was formally charged on August 10 and is now facing a first-degree murder charge in relation to Tran’s unfortunate demise, as well as a first-degree attempted murder charge pertaining to the injuries inflicted upon his spouse.
In the early hours of August 7th, Chau reportedly struck Tran’s mother multiple times in their kitchen as she attempted to escape, as shown in the home’s security footage, which was acquired by Seattle police.
Tran attempted to intervene, however Chau persisted in his assault by striking both women, as stated in court documents.
Tran’s mother skillfully managed to escape and promptly contacted 911, while Tran firmly held on to Chau to prevent him from pursuing her, the documents indicate.
According to court documents, it is stated that there was an incident where they had a physical altercation on the floor, and later Chau proceeded to use a knife to harm Tran, punctuating his actions by occasionally pausing, changing his attire, and switching weapons.
The footage then depicts him searching the house for Tran’s mother, who eventually answered the door when police arrived shortly before 5 a.m. following a call made by Tran’s mother, according to documents.
Chau engaged with officers inside the house while still holding a kitchen knife, which he later released, according to documents.
The police have taken him into custody.
