Kylie Brewer warns parents that the “red pill” content that can be found online might be influencing how their teenage sons eat, date, and treat their mothers.
In her TikTok video, “3 signs your teenage son is being ‘red pilled,'” Brewer highlights three main warning signs: reluctance to eat soy, aggression and frustration about dating, and disrespect toward mothers.
The phrase “red pill” comes from the 1999 movie The Matrix, where the hero takes a red pill to discover the truth of the reality he lives in. This phrase was used later by influencers and forums that deal with men’s issues and that, according to critics, spread hatred towards women.
The first sign Brewer points to concerns food.
“No. 1: If your child has an obsession with steak and won’t eat anything with soy in it, because red pill content pushes ‘the soy boy narrative,’ which is basically, people who are liberal or vegetarian or eat a lot of tofu are completely ‘not masculine,'” she says in the video.
Furthermore, she adds: “There’s a rumor that it actually reduces testosterone levels, which doesn’t even happen. And so if your son is refusing to eat anything like this, he’s probably for sure watching red pill content.”
The second sign is aggression and frustration with dating.
“No. 2, if he’s become aggressive and complaining how ‘unfair’ life is, if he talks about how, oh, women never choose him, ‘women only choose certain types of boys.’ Or he’s having a hard time dating in school but has a very, like, aggressive demeanor and a very ‘life isn’t fair, woe is me’ kind of vibe, he’s for sure watching this type of content,” she says.
According to Brewer, this pattern is concerning as it targets boys while they are still very young.
“It’s really sad when young boys get sucked into this before they have a chance to even develop their confidence,” she notes.
The third sign Brewer highlights concerns how sons treat their mothers.
“And No. 3, if he’s being disrespectful to you, if his behavior towards you changes as the mother, something is for sure wrong,” she adds.
She concludes the video with a clear warning.
“Red pill content has turned the sweetest boys into genuine woman haters, and it is f***ing disgusting,” she says. “And it’s getting a hold of them before their brains are developing. So please be careful what your children are watching.”
