Anime fantasy film Witch on the Holy Night is set to hit North American theatres in 2027. The film will screen only in theaters within the US and Canada, commencing January 29, 2027.
Witch on the Holy Night is the brainchild of ufotable, whose previous production, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle I, earned numerous awards. So, after making demon slaying attractive and impressive, the same studio is trying its hand at witchcraft.
Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment are the distributors for this new anime film. Witch on the Holy Night will feature Japanese dialogue with English subtitles. It will also come with an English dub.
Witch on the Holy Night is based on the 2012 visual novel of the same name by Kinoko Nasu and TYPE-MOON. TYPE-MOON is also the author of the Fate series, which is also award-winning. The Fate franchise began with the visual novel Fate/stay night and includes other formats such as anime, manga, games, and films.
TYPE-MOON and ufotable previously collaborated on projects such as The Garden of Sinners, Fate/Zero, Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works], and the film trilogy Fate/stay night [Heaven’s Feel].
In Witch on the Holy Night, the lead character is Aoko Aozaki, an ordinary high school girl who is also an apprentice Magician in modern times. Aoko lives with her housemate Alice Kuonji and strives to become a Magician.
Next, the film follows “The girl meets a boy,” as mentioned in the official synopsis.
The producers say this encounter sets the stage for Witchcraft adventures for one girl. Balancing studies, a housemate, and magic spells is not easy.
TYPE-MOON is a renowned storyteller, especially in its Fate franchise, including Fate/Grand Order and The Garden of Sinners. The studio, ufotable, continues to impress people with its spectacular animation of TYPE-MOON’s stories and other movies, such as Demon Slayer.
TYPE-MOON and ufotable say that the turn of the 2000s and The Garden of Sinners marked the 2010s, along with the Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] and Fate/stay night [Heaven’s Feel] films. Now, they want to enter a new era with this highly anticipated film.
However, North America is not the only region to get the privilege of screening the film.
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will be the first to screen the film on January 21st. Austria, Germany, and the German-speaking regions of Switzerland will have the opportunity on January 26th. Next, France, Belgium, and the French-speaking regions of Switzerland will screen it on January 27th.
On January 28th, screenings will take place in Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Central America, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Italian-speaking parts of Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand.
Switzerland has three dates, as language issues complicate matters.
Finally, on January 29th, screenings will commence in the US and Canada, as well as in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Finland, Poland, Sweden, and India. Spain and Kazakhstan will conclude the distribution process on February 5th.
