Aaron Rodgers of the Pittsburgh Steelers said his ex-fiancée, actress Shailene Woodley, let him know that she needed to leave him in favor of another man just a few days after their engagement.
The 42-year-old athlete revealed this on his teammate Cam Heyward’s podcast, Not Just Football. This appears to be the first time he’s publicly talked about their relationship since it ended a bit more than four years ago.
As Rodgers claims, he proposed to Woodley in December 2020, and shortly after, their relationship began to fail. In his version of events, he said she accepted his proposal, but perhaps, he thought, she was forced into making this decision.
“But not a couple of days after that, she tells me, you know, before we get married, I got to go f**k this guy.”
He also rejected the media’s portrayal of the split.
“Her story is that I ruined her life and gave her a crazy depression because I left her. But the actuality is she told me that, and then she took off the ring by March…”
According to TMZ, Rodgers said they tried to reconcile, but it didn’t work out. He claimed that she told him herself that she wasn’t interested in being with him anymore.
Their romance started in 2020, the news of their engagement broke in 2021, and the relationship ended in 2022. Woodley has said that talking about their time together brings tears to her eyes, calling the romance wrong for her but beautiful nevertheless.
Woodley hasn’t publicly commented on her ex-fiancée’s new statements.
