Around 10am, Sunday, May 9th, the St. John’s County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call about a missing person. The missing individual was 13-year-old Tristyn Bailey. Tristyn was last seen around midnight on May 9th.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office began the search for Tristyn. They even sent alerts out to to the public and media about her whereabouts.
At approximately 6pm on May 9th, a body was discovered in the area. Police confirmed the body was Tristyn Bailey. 14-year-old, Aiden Fucci, has been charged with second-degree murder.
The cause of death for Tristyn Bailey, the cheerleader found murdered in a wooded area in Florida, is stabbing. A disturbing Snapchat photo of Fucci, taken after Bailey’s death, mentions the 7th-grade girl. Despite his young age, authorities released Fucci’s name due to the seriousness of the charges. “The suspect is under arrest. He is charged with second-degree murder,” said St. Johns County Sheriff Robert Hardwick in a news conference.
According to an arrest report, video surveillance from the community center showed the girl walking with the teen shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday. Another video from a nearby home showed the pair walking along a road about 1:45 a.m. The same video showed only the teen walking in the areas at 3:27 a.m., the report said.
It has still not been determined what the motive for the killing was. The crime has shocked many across the globe, making it yet another violent crime against a woman.
