Algee Smith has joined the cast of the Warner Bros now untitled Fred Hampton movie starring Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield. Algee will play a friend of Fred Hampton who is in the Black Panther party although at this time it’s not revealed who.

The story for this movie was created by the Lucas brother and the script was written by Shaka King and Will Berson. King is directing the movie which has gone through two previous titles “Jesus Is My Homeboy” and “Black Judas And The Messiah” the plot is told through the eyes of William O’Neal a criminal who the FBI planted into BPP to create rifts in the organization and keep tabs on Hampton. He ultimately gave the info that lead to the Leaders murder by the feds.

Hampton quickly rose to the top of the ranks of the Illinois BPP chapter and became the deputy chairman of the national organization. As he became more visible and charismatic, he became a target of the FBI and was killed along with another Panther member, Mark Clark, in a controversial raid carried about by the Chicago PD and FBI. Though the deaths were first ruled as justifiable homicides, further investigations took place, and some settlements were given due to civil suits. O’Neal, who gave the FBI the floorplans of Hampton’s apartment, died by suicide in 1990.
