Annie Knight says that being part of Stan’s reality show, “Turned On: Dirty Sexy Money,” has changed people’s perception of her as the first season comes to an end.
The 29-year-old says that people who used to criticize her have now changed their minds after watching the series, which revolves around nine women at the top of the adult online industry.
“I’ve had so many messages from people saying, ‘I’m not going to lie, I used to hate you, but after watching the show, I love you,” Knight said.
Knight has always been attracting the attention of the general public. According to the cast announcement by Stan, she is known as “Australia’s most s*xually active woman”, who became infamous after she announced applications for appearing with her in a video. This resulted in getting about 2,000 applications and 583 participants for a single day. The same announcement claims that Knight sacrificed her education at a Toorak private school and a degree in science and marketing to create content, and later launched her podcast, Annie Knight Unhinged.
Knight explains the growing acceptance of sex work as one of the reasons why she decided to join the cast.
“I also want se*x work to be more widely accepted; I’m so much more than just that,” Knight says. “I’m emotionally intelligent, I’m a good friend, and I genuinely try to be a good person. I want people like Lily and me, who do more outrageous content, challenges, and stunts, to be accepted just as much as any other s*x worker. Hearing those messages makes me feel like we’ve achieved that goal.”
The show premiered on May 29, and new episodes are released weekly on Fridays, Stan says. TVMaze lists 8 episodes in the show’s first season. Stan describes the series as an insight into the lives of content creators living on the Gold Coast, several of whom earn more than $1 million per year.
Nevertheless, the program faced some backlash. According to Pedestrian.TV, “Married At First Sight” bride Stella Mickunaite criticized the show on Instagram and admitted that, although these women have the right to make their own decisions, it’s not okay for young people to glamorize such work.
One of the main storylines in the current season is the end of Knight’s friendship with her fellow castmate Mia Bailey, as Knight found out that her close friend spoke about her behind her back when it was one of the hardest times in her life.
“Losing friends is always hard, especially in this industry,” Knight reveals. “It’s difficult to make genuine friendships, so every friendship you lose hurts even more. I have reached a point where I’m very selective about who I let into my life. Mia just wasn’t that person.”
She adds: “Looking back, it’s crazy how everything unfolded. I still can’t believe it happened the way it did.”
Knight admits that there is one of the funniest moments of the season that was not shown in the series.
“There was also a double date scene with Sammy, Lily, Henry and me that was hilarious,” she said. “Even the producers were saying, ‘This is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.’ I really wish that had made it into the show.”
When asked about the future of the series, Knight promises lots of drama.
“A lot more drama,” she said. “Honestly, the second the cameras stopped rolling, the drama didn’t stop. It’s just been one thing after another. I keep messaging the producers saying, ‘Get the cameras rolling.'”
