Anthony Head, the British actor best known for his roles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ted Lasso, has died at the age of 72, his daughters announced Friday.
Head died “peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family,” according to a statement his daughters Emily and Daisy provided to BBC News.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father,” Emily and Daisy said in the statement. “It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many.”
Head was best known to American audiences for his portrayal of Rupert Giles, the studious watcher to Sarah Michelle Gellar’s title character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
He later appeared on the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso, playing Rupert Mannion, the conniving ex-husband of Rebecca Welton, played by Hannah Waddingham.
He is survived by his daughters Emily and Daisy, both of whom are actors. His longtime partner, Sarah Fisher, died last year.
