Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York, told reporters on Thursday that President Donald Trump fires women from his cabinet but retains men with similar misconduct issues in their respective positions.
“Is he out of women? Because that seems to be his pattern right nowcasio-Cortez explained in a video clip circulating widely online. “Trump only seems to have the capability to fire female secretaries.”
The statement came when PabloReports asked which official should go next.
In the recent past, President Trump has fired three women holding Cabinet positions: Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security, Pam Bondi as Attorney General, and Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Secretary of Labor. The departures were all marked by scandals and controversies, and were succeeded by men in their positions.
For instance, Ocasio-Cortez cited male officials, such as CIA Director Kash Patel, who had not received any professional punishment despite being involved in similar misconduct.
“I think what Kash Patel has done is a thousand times worse than a lot of other people. But they’ve gotten off scot-free. If you’re a man in the Trump administration, it seems that they reward misconduct.”
Additionally, Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the case of Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, as an example of a woman currently serving in a senior post within the Trump Administration.
“What’s a man got to do to get fired in the Trump administration? They don’t seem to have a rhyme or a reason.”
