Tamyris Teixeira Santos, an influencer and lawyer in Brazilian martial arts, has been the subject of a police investigation since her corpse was discovered several days after her disappearance on the beach. Her body was found washed up near Leblon Beach, a busy location on the shore of Rio de Janeiro.
Tamyris Teixeira Santos, 36, was last spotted on April 18th when she went for a swim following a meeting with some friends at a beach kiosk. Eyewitnesses confirm she never resurfaced after swimming.
Her relatives became aware of her whereabouts only the following day, after a kiosk worker informed them that she had left her personal items there. The family reported her disappearance and called firefighters.
Her body was found on April 21 near the area of the Leblon viewpoint. Family members identified her to the police, and she was laid to rest on Thursday at a cemetery in Rio de Janeiro’s north zone.
According to a forensic report cited in the Brazilian publication Metrópoles, Santos died because she suffered a stroke during her drowning. Her drowning caused oxygen deprivation and flooding, which led to severe and fatal brain damage.
This incident gained much attention in Brazil because Santos disappeared on a busy beach in full daylight. Her mother, Elisabeth Teixeira, confirmed to local media that she disbelieved what had happened to her child.
“She said she was going there and never came back. No one has explained it,” Teixeira claimed. “The beach was crowded. There’s no way someone could drown, and no one would notice.”
What made the matter even stranger is the fact that friends of Santos left the beach without notifying authorities about her disappearance, according to Teixeira. Moreover, Santos had about 18,000 followers on Instagram, and she posted about her jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai training.
Family members and followers of Santos continue to investigate this case alongside the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police.
