AOC Highlights 2023 Achievements, Calls for Justice Clarence Thomas’s Resignation

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) unveiled a list of 23 accomplishments for the year 2023 on Friday, highlighting her impact on a variety of fronts. Her unwavering call for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to resign in the face of multiple ethics scandals was a standout moment.

AOC, a vocal critic of Thomas, claimed she played a role in urging the Department of Justice to investigate the associate justice for alleged corruption. In a five-minute video posted on X (formerly Twitter), she stated, “We called on the Department of Justice to investigate Clarence Thomas for corruption and were joined by senior [Democratic] members of the House Judiciary and Oversight committees.”

Following a ProPublica report earlier this year, calls for Thomas’ resignation gained traction. During his tenure on the court, Thomas accepted numerous perks, including 38 vacations, 26 international private jet flights, 12 VIP passes to sporting events, and ties to billionaire benefactors, according to the report.

Among AOC’s other accomplishments were her advocacy for the Green New Deal‘s expansion, calls for a ceasefire in Gaza during the Israel-Hamas war, and the successful passage of her bill ending the ban on the study of psychedelics.

“We’re back-back-back again. From announcing the American Climate Corps and supporting historic labor strikes, to responding to 1000s of neighborhood requests and getting school supplies to kids, it’s been a packed year,” AOC exclaimed in her social media post.

The congresswoman also emphasized her support for strikers, including those in Hollywood, as well as her participation in a congressional delegation to South Korea, Japan, and South America.

AOC’s multifaceted approach to advocacy has established her as a prominent figure in the political landscape, leaving an indelible mark on a variety of issues in 2023.
