Apple TV+ has officially announced the renewal of its popular half-hour comedy “Platonic” for a second season. Starring and executive-produced by the dynamic duo Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen, the critically acclaimed first season, co-created and directed by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, is currently available for streaming globally on Apple TV+.
“Platonic” has rapidly risen to become one of Apple TV+’s best-performing comedies since its global premiere earlier this summer. Garnering widespread praise from both critics and fans, the show has achieved a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Described as delivering “the best comedy of the summer” by Mashable, the series is celebrated for its “deft writing, delightful performances” (Den of Geek) and the “heady and disarming chemistry” between Byrne and Rogen (The Wall Street Journal).
Co-creators Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco expressed their excitement about the second season, teasing fans with a spoiler alert: “Will and Sylvia won’t get together this time either.”
Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, stated, “Since the first episodes of ‘Platonic’ debuted on Apple TV+, global audiences have been charmed by the hilarious, wildly fun, and relatable friendship that Rose and Seth have brought to life through their charismatic performances.”
“Platonic” follows the story of a platonic pair of former best friends (Rogen and Byrne) as they reconnect after a long rift, and their friendship becomes all-consuming, hilariously destabilizing their lives. The first season also starred Luke Macfarlane, Tre Hale, Andrew Lopez, and Carla Gallo.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television, where Stoller’s Global Solutions has an overall deal, the show features executive producers Byrne, Rogen, Stoller, Delbanco, and Conor Welch.
Rose Byrne, who also stars in Apple’s dark comedy “Physical,” continues to strengthen her collaboration with Apple TV+. Meanwhile, Seth Rogen is set to star in an upcoming untitled comedy series for Apple TV+, showcasing his versatile talents as he takes on the roles of writer, director, and executive producer alongside Evan Goldberg. Fans can anticipate even more comedic mayhem in the upcoming season of “Platonic.”
