The trailer for “City on Fire,” a forthcoming eight-episode mystery thriller based on the acclaimed Garth Risk Hallberg novel and written by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl, “The O.C.”), was released today by Apple TV+.

A music-driven story and family adventure, “City Ablaze” is driven by a troupe cast featuring Wyatt Oleff, Pursue Sui Marvels, Jemima Kirke, Nico Tortorella, Ashley Zukerman, Xavier Clyde, Max Milner, Alexandra Doke, Omid Abtahi, Kathleen Munroe, John Cameron Mitchell, Geoff Pierson, and Beth Malone.

On July 4th, 2003, an NYU student is shot in Central Park in “City on Fire.” Samantha is distant from everyone else; there are no observers and very little actual proof. She leaves to meet someone and promises to return to the downtown club where her favorite band of friends is performing. Never does she.

During the investigation into the crime against Samantha, it becomes clear that she is the crucial link between a series of enigmatic fires that have broken out all over the city, the downtown music scene, and a wealthy uptown real estate family that is breaking apart due to the many secrets they keep.

Ponders stars as Samantha, and Oleff plays Charlie, a companion of Samantha’s who is battling to adapt to the passing of his dad on 9/11 two years sooner. He does everything in his power to solve the mystery surrounding Samantha’s death.

Apple Studios is in charge of producing “City on Fire” for Apple TV+. All eight episodes got written by Schwartz and Savage, who also serve as showrunners and executive producers for Fake Empire. Executive producer and director Jesse Peretz oversee four episodes. Co-executive producer is Lis Rowinski of Fake Empire.

The first three episodes of “City on Fire” will air globally on Apple TV+ on May 12th and will be followed by one new episode each week until June 16, 2023.
