The witches are not done with you, darling. After bewitching the world in 2024 with the emerald-drenched fantasy spectacle Wicked, director Jon M. Chu is back, and this time, he’s ripping your heart out in high-def, Technicolor musical glory. The long-awaited sequel, Wicked: For Good, finally has a trailer, and let’s just say it’s already booked and busy with more drama, tears, betrayals, and bangers than your ex’s entire therapy file.

The Glinda-Elphaba Breakup We Feared Is Officially a Cinematic Tragedy

If you thought Glinda and Elphaba’s friendship was safe after their bittersweet bonding in Part One, you clearly haven’t been paying attention. Following the explosive finale of Wicked, where Elphaba peaced out in green fury while Glinda stayed behind to cozy up to the corrupt establishment, Wicked: For Good plunges us into the real mess: betrayal, heartbreak, and political collapse in a land run by literal wizards and liars.

And yes, Cynthia Erivo still eats the role of Elphaba with that unmistakable ferocity, while Ariana Grande’s Glinda is serving gowns, vocals, and guilt. You can practically hear the tension under her tiara.

Yes, Glinda’s in a Wedding Dress. Yes, Fiyero’s the Groom. No, We Are Not Okay.

The first trailer gagged us all with a shot of Glinda, full bridal fantasy, prepping to marry Jonathan Bailey’s brooding, beautiful Fiyero. A plot twist not found in the stage version, but Chu knew what he was doing.

“It’s life or death for all of them, so a wedding seemed appropriate,” he told Vanity Fair, clearly having zero concern for the state of our emotions. The love triangle is now a full-blown pressure cooker and based on the trailer, Elphaba doescatch a glimpse of the ceremony. Messy doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Say Hello to Dorothy and Say Goodbye to Peace

Yes, that Dorothy is here. The ruby-slippered menace has entered the chat, clicking her way down the yellow brick road with that confident walk that screams, “I’ve got a dog and I’m not afraid to use him.” Universal is playing coy, but the trailer’s teaser confirms it. The Kansas girl’s landing in Oz, and the timeline is about to get very un-musical.

The Stakes Are Higher, the Magic Is Wilder, and the Songs? Even Better.

The musical numbers you screamed to in the car? They’re back, and they’ve brought friends. Chu confirmed that fan-favorites like “Thank Goodness,” “No Good Deed,” and the gut-wrenching duet “For Good” are all present, accounted for, and fully re-orchestrated to obliterate your soul.

But that’s not all. Stephen Schwartz, the original maestro of magic, returned to write two new songs for the sequel. Chu is tight-lipped but did tease that one of the mysterious new melodies might be in the trailer. Cue internet sleuthing and audio dissection until November.

“They were necessary to help tell the story,” Chu told Vanity Fair, while looking smug and cinematic.

Universal Is in Its Pop Girl Era and We’re Living for It

Wicked wasn’t just a fan hit. It was a certified box office slayer. The 2024 film ended its theatrical run with a dazzling $755 million haul worldwide on a budget of $145 million. It became the fifth-highest grossing film of the year and the only original (non-franchise) entry in the top 10 because talent won, baby.

Critics adored it too. With an 88% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and a Verified Hot 95% on the Popcornmeter, Wicked was the rare film that united fans, critics, and theater kids across the spectrum. It nabbed 10 Oscar nominations and won two for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design, proving once again that when the witches link up, the Academy will bow down.

Chu Is Giving Consequences, Consequences, and Even More Consequences

Director Jon M. Chu is not here for your comfort. The man came to end cozy narratives and serve cinematic consequences. As he told Vanity Fair, “Our heart was broken when Glinda can’t make the choice that we want her to so badly at the end of movie one… In movie two, we get to see the consequences of those choices. The temperature is up.”

Translation: Elphaba’s got nothing to lose, Glinda’s got everything to hide, and Dorothy just showed up to ruin everyone’slife.

The Poster? Iconic. The Teaser Clip? Devastating. The Release Date? Tattoo It.

To stir the hype cauldron, the Wicked socials dropped the new poster featuring Elphaba in all her green glory and Glinda caught in a golden glow and a whisper of their tearjerking final duet, “For Good.” Honestly? Goosebumps.

The film officially hits theaters on November 21 and if the first part was any indication, this one’s going to cause total emotional destruction and we will be seated multiple times.

If You Thought Part One Snatched You Bald… You’re About to Be Scalped, Buried, and Reanimated

The fandom is already foaming at the mouth. Whether you saw the stage musical in 2005, discovered it through Grande’s soprano sorcery, or just showed up for the gowns and gays, Wicked: For Good is shaping up to be the cinematic event of 2025.

And if Elphaba doesn’t get justice by the end of this, we riot at dawn.
