3000 Pictures and Spyglass Media Group have unveiled the first official trailer for “Klara and the Sun”. It provides the first glimpse of the upcoming film directed by Taika Waititi based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s bestseller, which will hit theaters on Oct. 23, 2026.

In the trailer, we see Klara (Jenna Ortega), an Artificial Friend, who seeks the perfect home. She makes the acquaintance of Josie (Mia Tharia), with whom she immediately feels a connection.

In addition, the trailer depicts the strained relationship between Josie and her mother (Amy Adams) and hints at a family tragedy. According to the studios, the preview showcases how Klara’s pure and loyal curiosity begins to heal the family’s wounds and bring light to Josie’s complicated life.

The comedy-drama marks Waititi’s next attempt to make a film adaptation of a novel after he won an Oscar for his “Jojo Rabbit”. Waititi serves as both a director and a co-screenwriter with Dahvi Waller. They adapted Ishiguro’s book into the film.

In addition, the movie stars Aran Murphy, alongside Steve Buscemi and Natasha Lyonne.

“Klara and the Sun” is produced by David Heyman, Garrett Basch, and Waititi. Among its executive producers are Gary Barber, Alex G. Scott, Jeffrey Clifford, Rosie Alison, and Ishiguro.

MPAA has given the film a PG-13 rating for thematic elements, some violence, and strong language. “Klara and the Sun” is set to open only in theaters on October 23, 2026.
