Illumination’s Despicable Me franchise will captivate audiences once more with the release of “Despicable Me 4.” Following the success of 2022’s blockbuster hit “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” the latest installment promises an exhilarating mix of action and humor.
The film introduces Gru Jr., a mischievous addition to the Gru family, who brings a new dynamic to the beloved characters voiced by an ensemble cast that includes Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and the returning Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, and Madison Polan as Margo, Edith, and Agnes.
As Gru faces a new adversary, Maxime Le Mal, voiced by Emmy winner Will Ferrell, and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina, played by Emmy nominee Sofia Vergara, the family is forced to flee. The plot develops into a thrilling adventure full of nonstop action, bolstered by Illumination’s trademark subversive humor.
The Minions, a key part of the franchise’s charm, return, with Pierre Coffin reprising his iconic role as their voice. The film also features new characters voiced by Joey King, Stephen Colbert, and Chloe Fineman, which adds depth and diversity to the animated universe.
Chris Renaud, co-creator of the Minions and an Oscar nominee for his work on “Despicable Me” and “The Secret Life of Pets,” directs the film, which is produced by Illumination’s visionary founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Brett Hoffman, executive producer of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and “Minions: The Rise of Gru.”
Co-directed by Patrick Delage, known for his animation direction in “Sing 2” and “The Secret Life of Pets 2,” and with a screenplay by Emmy-winning creator Mike White (White Lotus) and Ken Daurio, the veteran writer of every Despicable Me film, the creative team promises a seamless continuation of the franchise’s success.
“Despicable Me 4” promises to unleash a new wave of Minions mayhem, combining action and comedy in a way that only Illumination can. With a star-studded cast, a proven creative team, and the beloved characters that fans have come to love, this latest installment is set to become another animated sensation. Prepare for a wild ride of laughs and adventures as Gru and his extended family embark on their latest adventure in the world of Despicable Me.
