In preparation for their highly anticipated second full-length album, “2,” (G)I-DLE faces several challenges, ranging from health concerns to lyric approval issues. The K-pop girl group is set to release an 8-track album, their first in seven months and a significant return since their sixth EP, “I Feel.” This is (G) first full-length album in two years, following “I Never Die” in March 2022.

Soyeon, Miyeon, Minnie, Shuhua, and Yuqi actively contributed to the album by composing songs or writing lyrics. The album’s title, “2,” cleverly mirrors the number of members, emphasizing each member’s distinct contribution.

The title track, “Super Lady,” led by leader Soyeon, stands out as a tribute to the strength and beauty of every “Super Lady” around the world. Soyeon and producers Pop Time, Daily, and Likey wrote, composed, and orchestrated the empowering anthem.

However, (G)I-DLE’s journey to the album’s release has not been without challenges. A press conference scheduled for Monday was canceled because members Minnie and Yuqi became ill with a fever and migraine, prompting a doctor’s recommendation to rest. This comes after fans have expressed ongoing concerns about the group’s health, with Minnie previously leaving a performance due to health issues and Shuhua taking a break after contracting the flu.

To make matters worse, two tracks from the album, “Wife” and “Rollie,” were banned by national broadcaster KBS for explicit lyrics and mentions of specific brand names, respectively. Cube Entertainment remained silent on the subject.

Despite these challenges, the album has achieved remarkable success, with over 1.8 million preorders as of Monday, setting a new record for the band. Offline sales begin on Tuesday.

In an interview, Soyeon stated, “This album has been made by efforts to fill it with (G)I-DLE. It’s an album about the essence of being a singer.” As fans eagerly await the release, Cube Entertainment promises to prioritize the artists’ health and keep fans informed of any plan changes.

(G)I-DLE, who made their debut in May 2018 with “I am,” has become well-known for their chart-topping hits, including “Latata,” “Tomboy,” “Nxde,” and “Queencard.” The difficulties surrounding “2” only heighten the anticipation and resilience of this formidable girl group.
