“The Outer Threat” is a sci-fi thriller starring Constance Wu, Mark O’Brien, and William Fichtner. The movie will premiere on various streaming services and via video-on-demand on Friday, July 10.

“The Outer Threat” is a directorial effort by William Woods, a Toronto filmmaker. He also wrote the screenplay of the movie that centers on astrophysicists Daniel and Michelle, who make a revolutionary discovery about extraterrestrial life. The scientists need to leave their hometown along with their families. A relentless but unknown pursuer is pursuing the group throughout the country. The journey becomes more challenging over time, until there is no clear distinction between scientific discovery and humanity’s fear, culminating in a dramatic confrontation that tests knowledge of science, comprehension, and survival.

Woods worked as a producer of the 2016 thriller “Mean Dreams,” whose cast included Sophie Nélisse, Josh Wiggins, Colm Feore, and Bill Paxton. The movie debuted at the Directors’ Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival. The most recent works of the producer include the 2020 movie “Castle in the Ground,” whose cast includes Alex Wolff, Imogen Poots, and Neve Campbell; also making its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, “The Kid Detective” (2020) with Adam Brody nominated for the John Dunning Best First Feature Film Award at the Canadian Screen Awards; and “Honey Bunch” (2025), featuring Jason Isaacs, making its debut at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival.

The cast of the movie includes Callista Crowe, Isaac Smelcer-Zhang, Oscar Hsu, and Murray Furrow. The movie was produced by Maddy Falle, Albert Shin, and Allison White; its executive producers are Rob McGillivray, Ben Stranahan, Tom Spriggs, John Hansen III, Patrick Vipond, Jared Blaichman, Jonah Blaichman, and Randall Okita. Justin Oakey edited the movie, and Mike McLaughlin was the cinematographer.

The English-language movie is 94 minutes long.
