A Los Angeles officer killed a family dog on Saturday, an incident that drew reactions from the public as well as the rapper Bhad Bhabie and Mayor Karen Bass.
In response to a reported domestic disturbance involving screams on Saturday, officers arrived at the apartment of a resident in Canoga Park, MyNewsLA reports.
The woman, who was celebrating the New York Knicks winning the NBA finals with the dog of one of her sons, a golden retriever-Saint Bernard mix and poodle mix named Jameson, that she said was 2 years old.
As soon as the woman opened the door for the officers, Jameson, wearing a Knicks t-shirt, ran outside, and an officer fired at the dog. The dog’s owner broke down and cried at the scene, knelt over her dog, and said, “He’s such a good dog!”
Bhad Bhabie reshared an image of the dog and wrote on her X account, “I’m heartbroken.” Bhad Bhabie also wrote that she contributed $5,000 to an official GoFundMe page for Jameson.
The mayor announced Wednesday that a complete inquiry would look into the fatal shooting.
