Marvel’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ easily breaks the November opening record with $180 million at the domestic box office this weekend.
The film generated ticket sales from more than 4,396 theaters in the U.S. and Canada, according to estimates from The Walt Disney Co. on Sunday.
Overall, the film performed amazingly at the global box office. It did an additional $150 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to $330 million.
The Black Panther sequel marks the 2nd biggest opening of the year behind “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which garnered over $450 million globally on its opening weekend.
The woman-led film also had the 13th-largest opening of all time. One of the highlights of the film was Angela Bassett’s performance, which many believe Bassett will become the first woman to receive an Oscar nomination in the best actress category to portray a Marvel character.
