Brazilian Woman Nicknamed “Pocahontas” Arrested in Fraud Investigation

A woman associated with a criminal scheme known as the Federal District Civil Police was apprehended in Operation Black Card, authorities stated on Wednesday.

According to information, the accused is a lady named Lara Daniella Oliveira Cruz, alias “Pocahontas”. It is alleged that the suspect assisted in managing a network involved in stealing people’s personal information and bank cards, then using them to operate payment terminals registered with false individual and company tax identification numbers.

It has been established that the gang created fake billing connections to process payments and transfer funds through newly created shell corporations and accounts belonging to “orange” account holders – individuals used for concealing ownership of assets.

Cruz allegedly used the illicitly earned money to support an opulent lifestyle of traveling all over the world to luxury destinations such as the exclusive beaches of Brazil’s northeast region and Dubai. Pictures have shown that the accused would often post photos from her luxurious trips, enjoying jet-skiing, fine dining at high-end restaurants, and staying at expensive hotels and resorts in those destinations. Her photographs include some with luxury German cars.

It has been established that her expenses appeared out of context with whatever legitimate sources of income she could claim.

The authorities will reveal no further names. According to the “Na Mira” column, the suspect has been held in temporary detention for five days following an investigation.

Lara Cruz’s lawyer, Luma Benjamim, stated on social media following her client’s arrest. The attorney stated that Cruz is at liberty and has been cooperating with the investigations since their commencement.
