The horrific shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has rocked the nation, leaving shock, sorrow, and bitter splits on the internet. And to the many voices responding was social media star and model Camilla Araujo, who took to video to deliver an emotional and unscripted plea for humankind. It was not only the act of violence itself that her words raged against, but also the sickening celebration of Kirk’s passing that was circulating across the internet.
Araujo’s Emotional Plea
In a video that went viral across different platforms, Araujo struggled to keep her tears back as she spoke about the effects of the murder and about the disturbing reactions to it.
“Regardless of your political beliefs or anything that you believe in, I just want you to know that one day those children will grow up and see the way that their father was brutally murdered,” she said, her voice breaking.
“Maybe they’re too young to know or to have seen what really happened, but they sense their mom’s pain, and you see the videos that people are putting up rejoicing in the death of their father.”
Visibly shaken, Araujo didn’t try to hide her disgust. “That is fucking disgusting, really, I’m floored.” To see how some people are celebrating the death of a human life, because at the end of the day, politics just divides people. This man was a husband and a father of two children. One of them was so young they didn’t even get to see what it feels like to be loved by your father.”
The influencer concluded her comments by saying the tragedy “was heartbreaking.” She sent her prayers to Kirk’s family and reminded her followers that political disagreements in no way should dehumanize another person.
A Nation in Shock
Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of conservative youth group Turning Point USA and Trump’s close friend, was shot and killed during a public question-and-answer session at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Authorities stated that the activist had been targeted, and described this as an act of political assassination.
This is a black day for our state. “It’s a sad, sad day for our country,” Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said. “I want to be very clear, this is a political assassination.”
Law enforcement officials disclosed, late Wednesday, that they are pursuing a person of interest, although they did not make any arrests. The suspect remains at large.
